Ear Infections in Eagan MN

Do you or your child have ear infections in Eagan, MN? Most often, they cause pain in the ear because of inflammation and buildup in the air-filled space behind the eardrum that contains the tiny vibrating bones of the ear. Thick, yellow fluid coming from the ear can also be a sign of an ear infection. They occur more in infants and children than in adults.

Ear Infection Facts
  • Ear infections are more common in December through March in the United States.
  • Ear pulling can be a sign of an ear infection but more commonly children pull their ears from itching, teething, exploration, comfort, or habit.
  • Most ear infections occur in children under the age of two.
  • The best clue of an ear infection is evidence of pain, such as crying or screaming, fussiness, or irritability (worse when lying down), or suddenly increased difficulty sleeping (especially at night).
  • In an infant, you might notice shaking of the head.
  • A fever will accompany an ear infection in only one third to one half of children.
  • Other symptoms may also appear, such as loose stools or vomiting.
Causes of Ear Infections

Ear infections can be caused by bacteria and viruses that occur from swelling that blocks the Eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ears to the throat. This stops air from reaching the middle ear resulting in a suction that pulls fluid and germs from the nose and throat into the middle ear. That fluid buildup allows for bacteria or viruses to grow into an ear infection.

What Can I Do to Correct and Avoid Back Pain?

Here are a few things you can do immediately:

  • Avoid smoky environments.
  • Breastfeed your baby if possible. If breastfeeding is not an option, avoid bottle-feeding while the baby is lying down.
  • Discontinue use of a pacifier.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Put three to four drops of breast milk into infected ear.
  • Expose person with the ear infection to moisture, such as soothing baths.
  • Apply warmed moist compresses to the outer ear for twenty minutes every few hours.

While all these tips will help you correct and avoid ear infections, there could still be a deeper issue causing the ear infections. A misalignment in the spine, most often caused by the birthing process, could be the problem. The only way to correct a misalignment in the spine is to see a chiropractor.
